The combination of masses of animals, diverse eco-systems, and the splendid views of Mount Kilimanjaro make Amboseli National Park high up on the must-see list of any Kenyan safari.
With desert landscapes to lush green swampland, the scenery changes entirely during game drives, with new photo opportunities presenting themselves all the time.
Amboseli is famous for its huge elephant herds, and is home to a remarkable concentration of species and birdlife, all the while being watched over by the highest peak in Africa.
Birds and Mammals
The wildlife of Amboseli is diverse and numerous, with regular sightings of lions, elephants, leopards, zebra, buffalo, hippo, cheetah and more.
And to complement this, there is an array of birdlife, with some 400 species being identified within the park. With beautiful coloured water birds and majestic eagles, both the lands and skies of Amboseli are home to some wonderful creatures.
Mount Kilimanjaro
The highest peak in Africa, and an iconic landmark which has intrigued and challenged travellers for many years, Mount Kilimanjaro stands guard over the East African plains, casting its shadow over the lands for many miles.
Although usually best seen from across the border in Kenya (especially from Amboseli National Park), Mount Kilimanjaro slips into the boundaries of Tanzania, and all Kili climbs must begin from here.
The snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro have been written about in numerous tales and legends, and play a role in much of African folklore. Conquering the mountain takes some courage, determination and patience, and the reward of reaching Africa's highest point is hugely fulfilling.
Private Concessions
With minimal accommodation options, and the expense and time involved in getting to Katavi, the 4 500 square kilometres of national park is virtually empty of any human activity.
Mother Nature is completely in control here, and to be lucky enough to bear witness to the untouched wilderness is something you will cherish forever.
Village Visits
Most of the camps work closely with the local Masai communities, and village visits can be arranged to learn more about their fascinating culture.
You will have the opportunity to meet some of the local tribes, visiting their homesteads and interacting with the people.
