Kiri Camp is named after the Kiri channel which flows passed the island on which the camp is situated. The camp is raised on wooden decks to give one a view of the mighty Kiri floodplains which stretch out in front of the camp. The luxury tents are designed to incorporate the surrounding ebony forest under which the camp is situated. The use of wood, canvas and reeds are primary to the architecture of this stunning camp.
Kiri Camp offers a combination of both game drives and water activities. Based on a private concession, these activities will take you to some of the more remote areas in the delta, previously inaccessible. A motorboat ride during peak flood times promises to enthrall you and captivate you, with the chance of seeing iconic wildlife from the river. Glide on quiet mokoro’s through the water lilies and view wildlife from below as you sail along at water level height. The wildlife in the Kiri area is diverse and plentiful, renown for its lion and buffalo interactions and rare wild dog numbers.

Teeming with herds of elephant and all the Okavango predators, with so much space and so much action, it’s no surprise that National Geographic and Netflix filmmaker Brad Bestelink has chosen to base himself here. This is leopard country. These territorial cats love it here so much, that the area boasts the third highest density recorded anywhere in Africa. Mokolwane is a special little camp, big on adventure. Set amongst a lush forest of old growth leadwood and acacia trees, each luxury safari-style tent and thatched chalet is a little bush haven. Surrounded by habitats of river, riverine, woodland and dry savanna this wildlife sanctuary is full of life and brimming with plains game and birdlife.
The abundant bird life will set any twitcher twitching and anyone with a soft spot for giraffe will be in a state of pure bliss as they get up close and learn more about our resident herd from our team of naturalists. In fact, the lodge was named after our littlest resident giraffe, born during our refurb in 2021. Surprisingly tall from birth, she was soon called Thamo Telele, meaning ‘long neck’ in Setswana. As we observed her growing day-by-day, she captured our hearts in such a profound way, that we decided to rename our ‘new’ lodge after her.
A night or two at Thamo Telele is all you need to discover why this little lodge has some cool safari style and soul!

Built on a raised, wrap-around railway sleeper private deck using entirely recycled materials, Sitatunga Private Island can accommodate up to eight guests as part of Great Plains latest Okavango Delta water-based Réserve-Collection Safari Camp.
Sitatunga’s design tells the story of the Okavango, a camp surrounded by water referenced to a Robinson Crusoe experience, and one that has had indigenous fishermen in the region for over 200 years. Those fishermen designed and used fishing baskets and traps made from reeds in the shape of a funnel so Dereck Joubert took this reference and designed the rooms as tents hanging inside of giant bamboo fisherman baskets. The interiors as a result draw on a colour range that you can see by looking out at the Okavango, misty greens, and light-bleached woods.

The Moremi Game Reserve was established in 1963 to protect some of the most important habitats in the eastern Okavango Delta. The reserve takes its name from Chief Moremi III of the Batawana tribe, and reflects the fact that this was one of the first reserves established on the initiative of local people rather than colonial-era authorities.
At first, the Moremi covered only a small area known as the Mopane Tongue. As awareness of the importance of the Delta has increased, the area protected by the Moremi has been steadily increased.

Okavango Explorers Camp is an Explorer Collection safari camp located in the southwest of Botswana’s private Selinda Reserve. At the intersection of the upper Okavango Delta water system and the famed Selinda Spillway, the camp’s location is a unique combination of two iconic ecosystems. This area may be new to guests but has been known to us for many years as one teeming with wildlife.
The 130,000-hectare Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana is a prime predator and elephant habitat. This location has been handpicked for its access to some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the region, along the southernmost section of Selinda Spillway. Lion, leopard and wild dogs hunt these parts regularly. There are good densities of giraffe, buffalo and exciting and now rare antelope like roan, sable and eland. At the peak of the dry season in late September, the Selinda Reserve has been documented to be home to over 9,000 elephants concentrated along this river system. For lovers of elephants, this is the place to be in the dry season. There is phenomenal birdlife in this area for those looking for some ‘lifers’.
Okavango Explorers Camp creates a safari experience reminiscent of exploring the unknown African hinterland in a 1920’s style. The camp exudes a spirit of the romance of yesteryear whilst ensuring that adventure and discovery are an essential part of the journey.

The Central Kalahari game Reserve (CKGR) is the largest, most remotely situated reserve in Southern Africa, and the second largest wildlife reserve in the world, encompassing 52 800 sq kms.
During and shortly after good summer rains, the flat grasslands of the reserve’s northern reaches teem with wildlife, which gather at the best grazing areas. These include large herds of springbok and gemsbok, as well as wildebeest, hartebeest, eland and giraffe.
At other times of the year, when the animals are more sparsely distributed, the experience of travelling through truly untouched wilderness, of seemingly unending dimensions, is the draw.
The landscape is dominated by silver terminalia sandveldt, Kalahari sand acacias, and Kalahari appleleaf, interspersed with grasslands, and dotted with occasional sand dunes, pans and shallow fossil river valleys.
CKGR is unique in that it was originally established (in 1961) with the intention of serving as a place of sanctuary for the San, in the heart of the Kalahari (and Botswana), where they could live their traditional hunter/ gatherer way of life, without intrusion, or influence, from the outside world.
The camps tents are 4 x 3m Sahara style tents with high roof with a 2 x 3m en-suite bathroom and a 2 x 3m covered area in front of the tent. For more than 30 years, Jack’s Camp has been an icon of African safaris, pioneering under-canvas luxury on the fringes of Botswana’s ethereal Makgadikgadi Pans. Now the adventurous spirit of Jack Bousfield ventures into new territory, with the opening of Duke’s Camp in the magical wilderness of the northern Okavango Delta.
While Jack’s has long taken its cue from the desert, Duke’s Camp draws its inspiration from the crystal-clear channels of the Okavango Delta, which wind sinuously around this permanent camp.
This landmark new camp is named in honour of Sarefo ‘Duke’ Sarefo, the custodian of this bountiful piece of wilderness. Duke was born 80 years ago on the very island that the camp now occupies, and his ancestral roots run deep into these sandy soils.
Pitched on raised wooden decks beneath a canopy of ebony and leadwood trees, the luxurious safari tents offer an unforgettable under-canvas adventure in the midst of this remarkable World Heritage Site. With expert guides honed in the bushcraft and lore of the Delta, there are few better ways to discover this wild landscape.
Duke’s Camp is a striking new safari destination set on a vast concession rich in game and natural beauty, and it lies waiting to be discovered.

In spite of this, birds, hyena and small animals frequent the pans throughout the year. During the rainy season, you will find thousands of zebra on the Makgadikgadi Pans, which lies on the route of one of the greatest animal migrations in Africa. Gweta Lodge offers you the chance to spend a night on the pans under the stars, for a "Not To Be Missed" experience. The lodge is also situated in a village with cultural walks and tours available to experience the local culture and traditions. (All activities are optional and at an additional cost)

Unlike the vast majority of the country, Central Chobe is not a totally flat landscape. Large outcrops of volcanic rock reach up out of the Kalahari sands, towering over the endless savannah. These hills provide habitat for a completely different array of small wildlife, birds and plants.
The Savuti Marsh has been the stage for many of the most dramatic wildlife documentaries in Africa. The wide open country, good ungulate populations and particularly strong prides of lion and hyaena clans make for dramatic wildlife interaction and excellent viewing opportunities. The now dry Savuti Channel runs through this landscape linking the dry sand-veld, the waterholes, the hills and the grassland that was the Savuti Marsh.

When it comes to wildlife, seasoned African travellers speak of the Moremi in awe. Tawana is entirely unfenced, allowing the wildlife to wander right through the heart of the camp, unhindered. Here, the wilderness surrounds you each minute of the day.
This new addition to the Natural Selection portfolio is born of a partnership with Chief Tawana Moremi, the paramount chief of the Batawana tribe. Inspired by the incredible breathtaking scenery and beauty of the biggest in-land delta in the world, the ‘Okavango Delta’. After the first visit to the Delta in 2016 with the family.
It was clear we had to showcase this to the whole world!!! It was also clear that conservation had to be top of the agenda including preserving the culture of the tribes who live and breathe the Delta.
The name Xaoo means ‘Buffalo’ in the native language of Sesarwa, comes from the frequent Buffalo visits to the nearby marshes of the Camp.
The Chalets
Xaoo Safari Camp is a tented camp, off of the tiny village of Xoxao in the Okavango Delta. The village is home to a diverse Batswana tribe which includes a combination of Basarwa, Bayei and Baherero natives. Situated seventeen kilometers west of Shorobe Village in to the heart of the eastern part of the Okavango Delta.
Six gorgeous luxury tented and raised chalets with a capacity of a maximum of three or four people per chalet (two adults and two children or 3 adults). The chalets are ideal for couples, small families, and friends. The chalets are well spaced apart ensuring privacy and a personal experience. An excellent place for your much-needed rest in between your activities. Chalets are in-suite and equipped with:
-Super-sized King size Bed or two ¾ beds (based on preference)
-Sleeper couch
-Indoor bath tub
-Outdoor shower
-Multiple socket charging point
-Hot water
Wild Life
The lagoon which is situated on the longest side of the property has an abundance interested small swamp animals e.g. fish, frogs, and these are a big attractant for those who feed on them.
Water-based and land activities are offered at Xaoo, and these are carried out just ten minutes away in a private concession that shares a border with the Moremi Game Reserve. The area boasts of an abundance of wildlife including but not limited to the Big five.
This private concession is a hidden gem, and guests get to experience very low volumes of tourists moving about, and therefore an intimate experience with nature. Activities include mokoro excursions, game viewing drive, walking safaris, cultural village tours, overnights on Island as well as at Khwai/Moremi, Elephant sanctuary tour, Helicopter scenic flights and massage spas.
Conservation
As a means of playing a part in conservation, the whole camp is solar powered. The vegetation in and around the lodge has largely been left as is with a view to preserve nature in its natural form. We fiercely protect and value everything from an ant to an elephant.
Giving Back
Xaoo Safari camp is situated off of the village of Xuxao with no more than 300 natives scattered in and around the NG35 concession. Our vision is to support this community with basic necessities in the areas of a) fresh water b) food suppliers c) and sustainable employment. Guests are invited and encouraged to leave any donation which can enable us to fulfil this noble cause.

Looking for a truly unique way to spend time in the bush? Then look no further than our fabulous Skybeds, located deep within the Khwai Private Reserve. Charmingly rustic yet perfectly stylish, you’ll find a bathroom with flushing loo on the first floor, a dressing area, and the ultimate cherry on the top floor, an enormous double bed, draped in white linens and a feather duvet and completely open to the stars.
With such spectacular skies overhead, you could be forgiven for forgetting about what’s happening down below. But keep one eye on the ground, for the Skybeds overlook a busy waterhole. In one night we’ve seen wild dog, lion, elephant and hyena – and that’s just the beginning. Guests wake up to panoramic views of the Delta floodplains and, during the flood season, the water channels link to open water filled with flowering water lilies and tall papyrus. Under sweeping marquee canvas, the central area on raised decking offers guests an open-concept dining and lounge area.
Duba Explorers Camp is on an island surrounded by beautiful landscapes and watercourses as it sits in the heart of Botswana’s northern Okavango Delta floodplains. The camp is accessible only by a gum pole bridge. During your siesta, lounge on the daybed on your veranda, absorbing the peacefulness and tranquillity of your surroundings. During the flood season, you might even be lucky to catch sight of spotted neck otters swimming and eating. Listen out for the prolific birdlife. At night, let the hippos sing you to sleep. Sometimes, the roar of a lion cracks through the night as he calls out to his pride.
During a stay at Duba Explorers Camp, guests step into the shoes of the early adventurers. Explore the water channels associated with the Ngoga River system by boat or traditional canoes (mekoro), meandering through channels created by hippos and elephants. The mekoro allows you to glide silently through the channel systems and experience a peaceful water world around you. With over 400 bird species, birding is unsurpassed, with spectacular species like the malachite kingfisher zipping past you in a burst of colour. Vehicle safaris in this paradise allow for exciting encounters with the predators resident in the area. On guided walks, explore the islands, wetlands, and plains, following the tracks and interpreting the signs of the wild. Guests might even be lucky enough to get a glimpse of a rare sitatunga or an elusive leopard. Enjoy the excitement of catch and release fishing, where one can study the various delta fish species up close.
The unique flooding cycles of Botswana’s Okavango Delta create a mosaic of habitats from permanent wetlands to seasonal floodplains to woodlands and grasslands around Duba Explorers Camp and fosters an incredible diversity of wildlife. Plains created by dropping water levels in the dry season (December to April) form a perfect habitat for zebra, wildebeest, kudus, and tsessebes. In the flood season (May to November), the area transforms into a water wonderland with aquatic diversity. The year-round healthy herbivore population, including elephant, buffalo, and lechwe and suitable hunting terrain, attracts predators such as lions, leopards, and wild dogs – all highlights to any Botswana safari.
Guests staying at Duba Explorers Camp should also consider extending their safari to our Selinda Explorers Camp located located in Botswana’s Selinda Reserve. Selinda Explorers Camp is also an Explorer Collection safari camp of Great Plains Conservation.

We’re all about the wildlife at Hyena Pan. First up is its phenomenal location in Khwai Private Reserve. Positioned between Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe National Park and the Khwai River, our exclusive concession is a meeting point for more animals than you can shake a stick at. Think nomadic herds of elephant and buffalo, lion, leopard and wild dog fiercely defending their territories, as well as kudu, red lechwe and herds of dainty antelope dotted across the plains.
And then there’s the camp itself. From its lofty position amongst a grove of cathedral mopane trees, the eight tents at Hyena Pan look over a watery lagoon of the same name. In the morning, you’ll open your tent flaps straight on to the trumpeting elephant in the lily-filled waters below, spend your siesta watching herds splash and snort, and fall asleep to antelope grazing just outside your canvas walls. This isn’t a place for those looking for opulence and extravagance; it’s a private piece of big-game Africa, where the wildlife encounters are authentic, intimate and always wild.

Lagoon is perched on the banks of the wild Kwando River, nestled beneath towering ebony and marula trees. The heavily forested site is home to a wide variety of birds and mammals, while elephant and hippo are normally visible from the camp. The stunning views and close proximity of wildlife all contribute to the pervading sense of calm at Lagoon.
Lagoons area in the Kwando Reserve has a well-earned reputation for big game and large herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the winter months, when herds of up to a thousand are not uncommon. This vast concentration of game attracts the attention of large predators. The Lagoon wild dog pack regularly den close to the camp and the excellent viewing opportunities have led to Lagoons reputation as the place to see wild dog in Botswana.
Seasonally large herds of elephant drink at the river bank near to the camp in full view of the main deck, while pods of hippos are commonly seen languidly sunbathing in the water.
Lagoon accommodates up to 18 guests in nine expansive tents. Each tents private deck, living area, and bathroom all afford picturesque views over the river. Likewise, these views are also perfect to wake up to, in bed. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a bathtub for an enjoyable afternoon soak.
The main areas of the camp include a bar and sitting area, outdoor deck with a swing, dining area, curio shop, orientation centre, and a cosy second-level library overlooking the river.
Adjacent to the main area, is the family tent which has two entrances (one to the twin bedroom and the other to the main bedroom and living area). The family tent shares the same ensuite bathroom facilities.
Another special feature of the camp is the afternoon river cruise. The unique double deck boat allows several guests the opportunity to drift along the river while enjoying spectacular views, mammal and bird life while sipping at your sundowner of choice.
For those guests who enjoy fishing, there is ample room to throw a line in the water while the boat meanders along.
(Please note fishing is only offered in the open season March-December).

“Selinda Explorer’s Camp is where you can sit with your feet in the sand and listen to or tell stories of your safari adventures and is in an intimate camp built near the ground.” Dereck continues, “In fact, this Explorer Collection safari camp follows the kind of camps Beverly, and I have used for filming or research our whole lives. And yet, although offering an affordable Botswana safari experience, the camp has Persian carpets, exudes a real explorer’s camp feel, includes a lot of brass and copper, and is handmade by us just for you.”
Selinda Explorers Camp is located in the private 130,000-hectare (320,000-acre) Selinda Reserve of northern Botswana. The camp, which accommodates a maximum of only ten guests, is built on the banks of Botswana’s Selinda Spillway.
Subtly placed under the shade of the riverine forest, the camp’s style is reminiscent of early African explorer’s philosophies and practices. Whiling away afternoons under the canopy of African ebony and Mopane trees, interspersed with guided walks, canoeing, and early morning and late afternoon / early evening wildlife drives, make this affordable Botswana safari camp a respite from the ‘daily grind’ of a traditional safari.
This authentic tented camp draws on the classic East African safari traditions with beautifully detailed campaign-style furniture made from recycled hardwoods and soft furnishings from Zanzibar and the East.
The four custom-designed, semi-permanent guest tents provide comfort and style but with a magnificently raw spirit. Each tent offers guests a well-appointed bedroom, covered veranda, private ‘bustani bathroom’ complete with hot water showers and a flush loo. All the guest tents are at ground level, on slightly raised platforms.
Selinda Explorers Camp is an unassuming camp, light on its footprint but heavy on its experiential luxury. The atmosphere of the camp is one of bush elegance with a relaxed style, complemented by attentive staff, private, professional service and fabulous food.
Selinda Explorers Camp is an ideal property for those guests who want to experience Botswana’s extraordinary wildlife but in the most private setting and taking advantage of an affordable Botswana safari experience cost. Selinda Explorers Camp is perfect for individual travellers, couples, families and small groups of up to ten guests sharing.
The camp sits in prime predator habitat, in a handpicked location based on Dereck and Beverly Joubert, Great Plains Conservation owners and National Geographic Explorers, exploring the area for years. Lion, leopard, cheetah, and the recently discovered Explorers Pack of African wild dog hunt these parts regularly. There are possible sightings of good densities of giraffe, buffalo (in the dry season), and antelope – including roan and sable and recently spotted eland. In September, over 9,000 elephants traverse the private Selinda Reserve at the peak of the dry season. There is phenomenal birdlife along the Selinda Spillway’s banks for those looking for some ‘lifers’.
This camp, an Explorer Collection member of the Great Plains Conservation portfolio, combines beautifully with Duba Explorers Camp in the Duba Plains Reserve of the northern Okavango Delta.

Savuti means ‘mystery,’ and the fascination with this wild, unpredictable channel has attracted travellers and explorers for years. Depending on imperceptible shifts in plate tectonics, the waters of the Savuti either flow strongly – attracting thirsty wildlife – or ebb, revealing grassy plains where antelope gather, attracting predators. Savute Safari Lodge is currently closed for a complete rebuild, and will re-open in June 2024.
The photos here are renders of what the camp will look like when complete.
With the waterhole in front of the lodge being such a focal point of the Savute experience, a lot of work has gone into making the main area and sunken hide one of the most thrilling places to be in Botswana. All guest rooms have views over the Savute Channel ensuring dramatic wildlife viewing.
The sophisticated, yet simple interior décor, blends elements of a traditional safari lodge with a clean, contemporary feel while the colour palate draws inspiration from the harsh and dramatic contrasts of the dry Savute region.
Our top tips:
- While Savute Safari Lodge is closed, we can offer alternative options in the Savute region within our affordable package rates. Please contact info@desertdelta.com for more information.
- Our rates and package deals remain the same. No increases.
- While Savute offers intense wildlife viewing in the dry season (June – October), we recommend Savute Safari Lodge for green season itineraries. The Savute Marsh sees large numbers of migrating zebras, and the region transforms into a wildlife and birding paradise.
- Savute Safari Lodge will be the first Desert & Delta lodge offering a luxurious outdoor shower in each room.

In a life of deadlines and busy cities, the new source of luxury is having wide-open space, having your undivided attention on exploring and relaxing. At Migration Expeditions in Nxai Pan National Park, we offer just that – the unbelievable calm that comes from gazing at the horizon and having space to yourself. Activities on your Nxai pan safari include morning and afternoon game drives inside the national park and visits to Baine’s Baobabs. The intimate camp will be made up of 6 canvas tents set on low decks with bucket showers and two main area tents consisting of the lounge and dining areas.
Nxai Pan National Park is one of the best places to experience the longest zebra migration that spans from Namibia to the Nxai Pan area covering over 1000km. The migration occurs in the protected land of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. Migrations are essential for the ecosystems to avoid over-grazing and they ensure food sources are optimally used. Predators also benefit, as they follow the zebras and other herbivores and prey on the weak and younger herd members. Baines Baobabs is another fascinating attraction here, a cluster of baobabs that have been around for millennia was painted by artist and explorer Thomas Baines on his trek with James Chapman in 1862 across Botswana in search of Victoria Falls. The baobabs were the subject of the iconic painting, which captured the lure and fascination of these unusual trees as well as the beauty and authenticity of this Botswana paradise.
Migration Expeditions’ eco-sensitive design facilitates a seamless flow between its pristine desert environment and our stylish bush camp. The main area has two canvas-covered hubs; one side housing a dining area with an open kitchen and opposite, a cosy lounge area. Solar-powered charging points are available for those all-important cameras. The fire circle is at the heart of our bush camp offering and is an extension of the shared lounge area. Its magnetic quality beckons, inviting guests to share an authentic, warm African safari experience with us.

In 2008 (three years before Pangolin started) Toby first visited The Chobe with his mother and spent three glorious days onboard what was then called The Nguni Voyager Houseboat. This was a very special holiday for Toby and his mum and was the principal reason he fell in love with the river.
Roll forward to 2015 and the opportunity to buy the Nguni presented itself and he and Guts saw this as the perfect way to be able to offer accommodation along with our signature photographic boats and it was too good to pass up. So they took the plunge and have never looked back. You can also imagine how excited Toby’s mother was when he told her and she was literally the first one to book!
Renamed as The Pangolin Voyager to bring it inline with the brand we have spent a small fortune renovating and improving it from top to bottom to the magnificent “floating lodge” that it is today.
For groups of friends, families or perhaps a photo club on tour this vessel is perfectly suited to the needs of photographers and non-photographers alike who want to have an exclusive experience in one of Africa’s most productive wildlife photography regions.

Discover Wilderness Chitabe and its prolific wildlife, for an out-of-this-world safari experience.
Renowned as a predator hotspot, Botswana’s Chitabe is ideally located on private conservation land, bordered on the north by the famed Moremi Game Reserve. Here a mosaic of habitats supports outstanding wildlife numbers and biodiversity, and some of the most thrilling predator-prey sightings on Earth.
Please note Chitabe is about to undergo a complete rebuild of its rooms, and will re-open in April 2025. Below is the description of the changes being made:
Wilderness Chitabe, set within private conservation land bordering Botswana’s renowned Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, has announced an exciting upgrade to its guest rooms. Following a comprehensive refurbishment focused on these accommodations, Chitabe will reopen in April 2025, offering enhanced comfort and sustainability in one of Africa’s top wildlife regions.
The camp will close in January 2025 for the complete rebuild of its tented suites, with Chitabe Lediba remaining open to guests during this period. The new-look rooms combine luxurious comfort with a sustainable design that aligns with Wilderness light footprint ethos. These enhancements further solidify Chitabe’s reputation as a premier destination for thrilling and eco-conscious safari experiences, offering guests both indulgence and a deep connection to the natural world.
"We’ve conceptualised the new room design at Wilderness Chitabe with every guest comfort in mind. Each tented suite offers a serene sanctuary, styled with a neutral palette and featuring expansive beds adorned with luxurious linens. Thoughtfully designed spaces include an indoor lounge, an outdoor viewing deck with panoramic wildlife vistas, a Nespresso coffee machine, and a minibar for added convenience. With our new state-of-the-art cooling system, guests can unwind in perfect comfort, enjoying a luxurious hideaway in the heart of the Delta that enhances the authentic safari experience Chitabe is so well known for”, said Helene Hamman, co-owner of Wilderness Chitabe.
The newly expanded rooms have essentially doubled in size, featuring insulated walls, ceilings, and floors, while the camp is also set to debut an innovative evaporative cooling system, perfectly blending ancient wisdom with modern technology. Using an energy-efficient process first discovered in Egypt and Persia thousands of years ago, the advanced system allows cool air to circulate across the entire room through a series of ducts and vents, ensuring that the lounge and bathroom areas are also kept comfortable. “The fresh-air cooling, especially suited to the warm, dry climate of the Delta, will help to reduce our energy consumption, while enhancing guest comfort – especially during Botswana’s warmest weeks”, added Helene.
Renowned for its exceptional wildlife encounters, Wilderness Chitabe offers guests a front-row seat to one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions. The camp’s unique location, with its varied soils, vegetation, and ecotones, creates an environment that supports one of the highest predator concentrations in all of Africa and an array of prey species year-round, providing thrilling sightings and remarkable game viewing in every season.

Imagine a smattering of billowing white tents, shaded by desert palms and surrounded by a thousand acres of shimmering, sparkling nothingness. You’ve just dreamt up San Camp, our impossibly romantic, seven-bedroom camp on the edge of the Nwetwe Pan in Botswana’s Makgadikgadi. San isn’t a place for frills and fluffiness. The magic is in the minimalism, both at the camp and in the mysterious desert landscape. You can forget the tourist crowds and over-stuffed 4x4s too; it’s just you, the wildlife, and a handful of local San Bushmen, waiting to share their secrets with you. Of all the Makgadikgadi pans, we think Nwetwe is the most iconic. Meerkats pop up from the desert dust, brown hyaena hide in the grass, and you’ll see red hartebeest, springbok and gemsbok scurrying between them. But San Camp isn’t just about wildlife-watching – it’s about the atmosphere and the ethereal surroundings. Disappear into a remote world, a million miles from glowing screens and fruit-themed devices, where the 360-degree panoramas are so vast, you can see the curvature of the earth

The Footsteps Camp is in a remote part of the Okavango Delta and home to two safaris. Firstly ‘Footsteps Across the Delta’ a walking safari and secondly ‘Young Explorers’, a specialist family safari.
This comfortable private camp which accommodates guests in three specially designed, twin-bedded, Meru tents complete with sewn-in floors. One of the three twin bedded tents can be converted into a family unit that sleeps five. Each tent has its own newly refurbished en-suit bathroom including wash basin, porcelain flush toilet and hot water bush shower, even a daily laundry service.
The ‘bush kitchen’ is run by our chef and prepares menus to whet all appetites.
From this wonderful base we are able to offer something very special – the opportunity to explore the wilderness on foot: to get up close and personal with the African bush. It’s not to be missed.
Walking in the Okavango Delta’s wilderness is the highlight of a ‘true safari’ experience. No special training is required as the focus is on exploration and discovery – tracking fresh spoor each morning to reveal the night’s events. Other possible activities include game-drives, Mokoro or fishing trips (subject to water levels). The Footsteps walking experience combines well with the luxuries offered by either Shinde, Dinaka, Okuti or Kanana.
The emphasis is on guided walks which allow you to focus on learning how to track wildlife and understand animal movement, patterns and behaviour. Being on foot instead of in a vehicle also allows you to gain in-depth information on trees, grasses and the finer details.

Nxai Pan is located on the western edge of the fossil pan from which the camp takes its name. The camp faces east over the open grasslands of the pans. The biggest draw to Nxai Pan National Park are the zebras that migrate by the thousands to the area – the second largest land animal migration in Southern Africa.
Day trips to Baines’ Baobabs are highly popular, and include a picnic lunch at the site. These age-old trees were immortalised in paintings by the artist and adventurer Thomas Baines in 1862. If you were to compare Baines’ paintings to the scene today, you would find that after 150 years, the trees are nearly identical – testament to the age of these magnificent giants.
Another classic activity at Nxai Pan is a walk with one of the San bushmen trackers, an informative walk that takes place within the camp’s footprint. Learn about how the San used to live nomadically: how they used to hunt, gather food, water sources, and which plants were used for medicinal purposes. Their wealth of true bush knowledge is unparalleled, and one of our guests’ favourite experiences at our desert camps.
The camp’s nine tents face the waterhole, with the main area being the central best place for game viewing from the water hole. Frequent visitors to the water hole include elephants, cheetah, as well as the migratory herds of zebra (usually) from late December to early April, however this is entirely dependent on the summer rainfall in Botswana which affects the migratory cycle.
The minimalistic white-washed design of the camp is in keeping with the surrounding white salt pans. Nxai Pan accommodates a maximum of eighteen guests in thatched units specially designed to provide a constant and comfortable temperature throughout the year, when seasonal temperatures can fluctuate from below freezing to well over 45 degrees Celsius.
The main areas of the camp include an expansive open-air lounge and dining area, with a bar, pool and curio shop.
Nxai Pan is a 100% solar-operated camp.

Tau Pan is the first semi-permanent camp inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and offers truly incredible views from the elevated ridge of an ancient sand dune, an unusual experience in a land as flat as Botswana, and overlooks the famous Tau Pan - recognised for its stark beauty and remoteness.
Activities offered at Tau Pan are game drives, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper and Passarge Pans, star gazing, and nature walks with Bushman trackers.
‘Tau’ which means lion in Setswana, is so named for the pride of iconic black-maned Kalahari lions who frequent the camp (with a particular preference for the family tent!).
Species that can be found in the Kalahari include oryx, the desert-adapted springbok, jackals, the rare brown hyena, red-crested Korhaan and herds of wildebeest.
As with its sister camp, Nxai Pan, Tau Pan has been constructed with the areas ecologies in mind. Both utilise only solar power for the generation of electricity, heating of water and pumping of water from deep under the Kalahari sands. Waste water is treated in a state-of-the-art sewerage treatment plant and the fully treated water is returned to the sands from whence it came.
9 environmentally adapted en-suite tents including 1 family tent are set on raised decks, affording the same spectacular views over the plains. Each has an indoor and outdoor shower, double-basin vanity, open wardrobe, King-sized double bed, living area and writing desk.
The main area of the camp is set around the fireplace, which is the ideal spot for game viewing down to the waterhole. A telescope is also provided for guests’ use. The bar, lounge, curio shop and dining area all encircle the fire place.
The camp also has a sleep-out deck, which is on the eastern side of the camp. In an area as remote and isolated in the Kalahari desert, the light pollution is minimal to none, and consequently the star-gazing is simply magnificent and unrivalled by most other locations on earth. Having an unobstructed view of the night sky to fall asleep under is a truly memorable experience. The elevated sleep-out deck consists of a double bed, and a basin and WC. This experience is available on a ‘first come first serve’ basis upon arrival in camp, however guests staying 3 nights or more in Tau Pan can reserve this pre-arrival with their agent.

Remember a forgotten part of Botswana; come to Feline Fields by Mantis. Absolutely pristine, even the skies are barren of man-made flight. This vast Kalahari desert is alive with life. African elephants, leopards, gemsbok, brown hyenas and the occasional pack of wild dogs roam freely over the endless semi-desert planes.
There is an ancient soul that ignites this place; it is heard in the rapid syllables of the Ju-Huansi and Kung! Bushmen songs that flame night fires. These wise desert nomads have been here for thousands of years; living as their ancestors did. We are privileged to be able to introduce you to them so you can learn their ways.

Duba Plains Camp, the epitome of the Botswana safari, sits in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The private 33,000-hectare Duba Plains reserve is a matrix of palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland. This is the area that Great Plains Conservation co-founders, National Geographic filmmakers, conservationists and explorers Dereck and Beverly Joubert chose for their home base for filming.
The camp at Duba Plains offers five bespoke suites. The camp design ensures it blends into the landscape whilst evoking the classic African safari style of the 1920s. All the rooms are on raised recycled railway sleeper decking. Each suite affords guests stunning views of the surrounding floodplain and the steady stream of wildlife parading past. Each suite has a lounge area and beautifully appointed en-suite facilities: a flush loo, double vanities, indoor and outdoor showers, and a luxurious bath. Ceiling fans and an environmentally friendly air-conditioning system over the bed ensures a comfortable climate. Enjoy your private verandah, complete with a plunge pool and shaded sala.
Duba Plains Camp’s main area consists of a large raised dining room, comfortable lounge, interactive kitchen, wine cellar and library. The camp’s centre point is the gathering place of all your bush experiences. Its extended deck, under the giant ebony trees, is perfect for al fresco outdoor dining.
Duba Plains prides itself on its extraordinary Botswana safari wildlife experiences. Here you will enjoy intimate and up-close wildlife viewing opportunities, from lions and leopards to elephants, lechwe, buffalo and everything in between. Duba Plains is also known for interesting Kalahari species like aardwolf and pangolins.
A recent guest captured it perfectly when he said, “I am not a religious person, but I now understand that Duba Plains is the Garden of Eden.”
Duba Plains Camp and its neighbouring 2-bedroomed Duba Plains Suite are proudly Great Plains Réserve Collection camps. “Zarafa Camp,” says Dereck Joubert, CEO of Great Plains Conservation, “is a beautiful sweeping design we had a little fun with and epitomises the romantic Botswana safari many seek. The décor is hand made in a colonial style, all from reclaimed wood, which we purchased after the 2005 Tsunami to support local artisans in the East. I love spending an afternoon drifting quietly along the edges of the Zibadianja Lake in our houseboat. Sharing great stories as we watch the setting sun cast long shadows over huge herds of hippos and crocodiles or gently track elephant bulls as they swim the deep water from island to island. We recently watched painted dogs (wild dogs) chase impala into this lake once, only to have it stolen by a hippo!
Zarafa Camp was the first camp where we added our beautiful copper baths to the suite’s bathrooms. That romantic Botswana safari touch has become a sort of signature for us in all our camps, especially our Réserve Collection camps. We inserted Zanzibar doors to the suite’s designs, and the camp’s name Zarafa (meaning Beloved One) is a nod to the story of the first giraffe to be taken from Africa to Europe as a gift to King Charles X of France. The Zarafa Dhow Suite pays homage to this story and is an extension of the camp, and that story, downstream from the main camp.
We are, in essence, storytellers, of which there is still a beautiful ancient history of in Africa to be told.”
Zarafa Camp is located on the private 130,000-hectare (320,000-acre) Selinda Reserve. The Selinda Reserve links Botswana’s Okavango Delta with the Linyanti waterways, and every area of the camp offers stunning views over the Zibadianja Lagoon, the source of the Savuti Channel.
Zarafa Camp’s four guest suites individually measure over 100 square meters (1000 square feet) under flowing canvas. Each suite rests on raised reclaimed railway sleeper decking with the interiors consisting of a lounge area that flows to a beautiful bedroom and an open layout indoor bathroom complete with a copper claw-foot bath. Expansive outdoor decking that wraps around each guest suite offers guests a private plunge pool, outdoor seating and private outdoor shower.
Under a canopy of ebony trees, the main camp area offers guests a sizable main lounge, library, dining area and bush boutique. An outdoor gym and in-room massage are available. With all its careful appointments, Zarafa Camp maintains the perfect balance between luxury, adventure and offering that romantic Botswana safari experience. The camp has no equal when it comes to its environmental credentials. The camp’s construction consists of recycled hardwoods and canvas. All the camp’s electricity comes from its solar farm, and a biogas system converts vegetable waste into usable cooking gas.
The private Selinda Reserve is home to leopard, lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, red lechwe, zebra and giraffe. It is also a refuge for some uncommon species such as African wild dogs, roan and sable. And for birders, the nearby African skimmer colony is a highlight. From camp, hippos are visible in the Lagoon, and elephants wander through regularly. It is an exciting area, and guests are in the heart of this wilderness wonderland.
Zarafa Camp (and the nearby Zarafa Dhow Suite) were Botswana’s first Relais & Châteaux member properties. Today they are joined by our Selinda Camp, Selinda Suite, Duba Plains Camp and Duba Plains Suite as proud members in Botswana.

The safari never stops at Meno a Kwena, a hidden gem of a camp perched on a rocky clifftop above the Boteti River in Botswana. With a glittering roster of activities, including day trips to the Makgadikgadi Pans, guided walks with the San bushmen, and wildlife-watching boat trips, there’s plenty to get your teeth into. But sometimes, the best game viewing is where you least expect it, and at Meno, it’s right in front you. From their lofty position, the ten tents look down on a menagerie of animals at the water below, from herds of majestic elephant, to dazzles of nomadic zebra – all you need to do is sit back, and take it all in.
At just 90 minutes by road from Maun, Meno is a good option if you’re travelling as a group, or with little ones (or even big ones!). The camp was originally used by Southern Africa’s legendary explorers, and although we’ve added a few little touches here, and some little quirks there, it’s refreshingly and stylishly simple. And actually, the real treat at Meno is the connection with nature; when an elephant provides your alarm call in the morning, and you can game view straight from your private veranda, nothing else really matters.

Bakwena translated from Setswana, means people of the crocodile, this refers not only to our situation, but is also one of the largest tribes in Botswana; naturally the owners of the Chobe Bakwena lodge are both Bakwena!
Owners Jenny and Adam Young have worked throughout Botswana, managing bush camps and lodges and running their own safari company. “Having spent so much our time working in luxury lodges, we wanted our guests to enjoy similar levels of comfort at a reasonable rate and more importantly be able to take comfort that in choosing Bakwena as their destination, they have also made the right choice for the environment.
We acquired our land in 2000 and since then we have been growing our dream and planting the seeds of the indigenous riverine woodland that guests will find here today.
What started out as a barren soccer pitch has become what you see today, a refuge for our guests and any wildlife that chooses to share our sanctuary.”
After travelling the world and living in Cape Town while building towards the goal of Bakwena Lodge, they have returned to their heartland bringing their two young sons back to their “real” home in Botswana.

A maze of meandering water channels, papyrus-fringed banks and floating islands teeming with wildlife: known as the river that never finds the sea, Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the jewel of the Kalahari.
In the heart of the Delta, on the edge of a waterway, you’ll find Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge. Situated on a diverse, wildlife-rich, private concession, Sandibe has exclusive traversing rights over a vast 22,500 hectares (55,600 acres) of wildlife land bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.
The inspired organic design of the lodge melts into the surrounding forest canopy of wild palms and gnarled fig trees. Trees will shade you as you approach the lodge; an intriguing curl and sweep of shingled wood comes into view, resembling a giant scaled pangolin at rest. Stairs open onto the high ceilings of the copper-toned and glassless guest area overlooking the Delta. From this central dining area, the wooden deck stretches beyond the roof, while the upstairs bar and lounge extend along an elevated walkway to a viewing platform.
A series of decks descend to the forest floor culminating in a log boma, with a small gym and private massage sala close by. Interior finishes throughout showcase the craftsmanship of Botswana’s artisans, and feature intricate basketware, sculpted wooden tables and unique feature pieces. While the main guest area is set within the forest, the twelve guest suites peep out from beneath its canopy. Raised above the papyrus-lined banks like golden weaver nests, each is a cocoon of privacy, with breathtaking views, a private plunge pool and cosy fireplace.

The true art of safari is waking up with the crisp dawn air to the sound of birds rejoicing. Enjoying a warm cup of coffee, anticipating what the day has to offer. It’s heading out into the wild, open plains on foot in search of new ground and thrilling interactions. In the fast-paced, man-made world we live in, there is a pull towards authentic and honest travel and experiences. We’re going back to our original ‘Bush Camps’ roots and introducing our newest expedition-style camp to Botswana, with Linyanti Expeditions.
Linyanti Wilderness Reserve is a private concession boasting splendid scenery of untouched grasslands, riverine forest and meandering lagoons. The sumptuous style belies the simplicity of the camp. Organic layers with a comfortable lived-in feel are imbued with elegant touches of copper and cut-glass add a dash of old-world charm. Underscored by our ethos of eco-sensitivity, this Linyanti safari lodge touches the earth lightly. With only 6 tents, the camp has an intimate atmosphere, ensuring a personalized service for each guest. The main area has two canvas-covered hubs; a dining area with an exposed kitchen and an open lounge. As with most of our camps, the campfire is at the centre, drawing guests to enjoy the authentic experience of the African bush outside. The tents are firmly rooted on the ground, giving that extra level of connection to nature. Each room has en-suite bathrooms with chemical eco-friendly toilets and al fresco bucket showers. The wow factor in the rooms is the ‘star suite’. Each tent has a gazebo extension, where beds can be moved at night to give the experience of sleeping beneath a blanket of glimmering stars, immersing yourself in the wonders of the wilderness while still staying in the security of a mesh-enclosed area.
The location of our Linyanti safari lodge in the northern region of Botswana enjoys an abundance of wildlife. The area is frequented by vast herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra that attract iconic predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs. The peaceful African night is often punctuated by the lion’s gruff, baritone contact call, wild dogs yipping or hyenas whooping in celebration of meal or morsel. Activities to enjoy on your Linyanti safari include walking safaris, river activities such as mokoro trips, day and night game drives. Linyanti Expeditions offers awe-inspiring birding with Carmine bee-eaters nest on the banks of the Linyanti River. All these are complimentary activities and led by our qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you. The Selinda Suite offers travellers the best safari in Botswana experiences and accommodation available. The private 2-bedroomed Suite rests on the banks of Botswana’s Selinda Spillway as it enters the Linyanti River in the Selinda Reserve. The private 130,000-hectare (320,000-acre) Selinda Reserve is one of the most pristine wilderness areas left on our planet. The reserve boasts large herds of elephants and regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs. The famous Selinda Lion Pride, recently featured in the National Geographic film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck and Beverly Joubert, also call Selinda home.
With the services of a private wildlife viewing vehicle and guide, guests explore an area with a sense of remoteness, a true spirit of Africa. The Selinda is an excellent example of a Botswana private reserve offering various species and rare animals to be seen when on safari.
The Selinda Suite is within walking distance of our Selinda Camp. It is themed to resemble that of the thatched village of Sangwali, which used to house 3,000 warriors and who loaned David Livingstone 200 men during his travels. The design represents the meeting place of three cultures, European, Mokololo and Bayei.
Two beautifully appointed suites flank a central, open-air, yet covered, indoor dining and lounge area. Flowing from the main area is a large private veranda and private swimming pool. With an en-suite bathroom and indoor shower, each guest suite is unique, designed with its unique colour palette and theme. A fifth element, ‘metal’, is also incorporated into the design. Every space enhances what Livingstone would have had, what he would have travelled with and found. But beyond that, we go back to the Robinson Crusoe feel, including rope textures, rooms under thatch, hammocks, lots of space, nautical elements and salvaged wood.
The 2-bedroomed Selinda Suite operates exclusively of the main Selinda Camp, much like our Zarafa Dhow Suite and the Duba Plains Suite. The nightly rates include the services of your private vehicle, safari guide, chef, manager/butler and a separate entrance to the residence.
Enjoy early morning and late afternoon safari drives that only return after sunset, guided walks, boating, tracking, birding, and other bespoke wildlife viewing activities are designed to place you in front of the best sightings of Africa’s most iconic species the area offers for a unique one-on-one life-changing experience. Guests should also aim to tick off as many of over 200 bird species in the area.
The Selinda Suite (including Selinda Camp) is also a proud Relais & Châteaux member property alongside our Botswana located Zarafa Camp, Zarafa Dhow Suite, Duba Plains Camp and Duba Plains Suite.

The camp is a small, comfortably appointed place. Oddballs’ Enclave can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests, in five twin or double bedded mini-Meru tents, making it a classic and intimate camp. The tents are on elevated wooden decks, each with a semi-detached private bathroom with an al fresco bucket shower, and hot and cold running water. The Enclave is the perfect destination for a small group or family to spend time together.
The guest areas have a variety of comfortable seating arrangements and a raised viewing deck overlooks the sweep of the Delta – the perfect place to watch the sun or moon rise and view whatever wildlife may be visiting. The molapo that extends beyond the camp is, depending on the time of year, covered with water or entirely dry. Either way it is often filled with breeding herds of elephant, buffalo or a small family of kudu that is local to the island. Meals are enjoyed on the deck with spectacular views across the floodplains to the distant island forests.

Lebala means wide open spaces, and the camp is located in the Kwando Reserve’s 232,000 hectares of private unfenced wilderness. Here, the southerly flowing Kwando River disappears into the vast marshland to the east, outside of the Kwando Reserve. Lebala sits on the floodplains of the Kwando River and the special ecosystem is home to a wide variety of Africa’s plains game such as zebra, wildebeest, impala, giraffe, and tsessebe. The wonderful variety of wildlife also includes elephant, hippo, buffalo and the ever present predators of lion, cheetah and hyena. Lebala’s location away from the dense mopane woodland to the east of the Reserve facilitates the ease of traversing the concession looking for big game.
The camp itself is comprised of nine custom designed tents, with unique mosquito net walls, allowing an unobstructed flow of cooling breezes and stunning views. Each spacious tent has its own viewing deck, bathroom and luxurious double outside showers.
There is also one family tent which consists of an additional twin bedroom within the unit itself, ensuring that parents and young children sleep in the same tent for their peace of mind.
The main areas of the camp include a small swimming pool, a communal fire place and dining room, a curio shop, bar and lounge area complemented with a small library.
Outdoor private dinners can be organised by the poolside or by the fireplace for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and honeymoons.
