South Africa

For a varied, diverse, exciting and fulfilling holiday, one would  be hard pressed to find a country in Africa, or the world, which offers more. South Africa has it all, including wildlife, mountains, deserts, beaches, forests, numerous cultures, first world cities, untouched landscapes, casinos, amusement parks, exciting activities, excellent roads and infrastructure, off road 4 x 4 routes, fantastic food, good wine, great sports stadiums, incredible people and a triumphant history.

Johannesburg

Although usually only used for quick stopovers by most travellers, Joburg is an exciting and vibrant city, with some excellent hotels, fantastic shopping facilities, loads of historic signifcance, and a flourishing sporting culture.

With the launch of the Gautrain in 2010, the Sandton district is now only 10 minutes from the airport, and this places one in a position to easily access most of the city's highlights.

City Lodge Hotel at O R Tambo International Airport

Conveniently located at Africa’s busiest airport, the 365-room City Lodge Hotel at OR Tambo International Airport, allows both business and leisure travellers a convenient and comfortable place to rest at the end of a flight.

The hotel is walking distance to and from the airport terminal buildings and is adjacent to the Gautrain Airport Station.

Business travellers will appreciate the simplicity of staying at the airport for short visits, while leisure travellers won’t have to worry about where to stay for that one night between flights to their final destination.

The expansive lobby lounge, displaying flight information boards; uncapped WiFi; three boardrooms and conference facilities for 46 guests and fitness room are just some of the services on offer.

The #Café restaurant and bar are complemented by a sparkling swimming pool with deck, ideal for a refreshing swim in the sunshine before or after the next stage of travel.

Access to a wide variety of retailers, restaurants and banking facilities within the airport building completes the package.

Day 2 : Okavango Delta

This morning you will walk back into the airport terminal in time for flight 4Z 300 departing at 12h05 to Maun in Botswana. You will be met at Maun Airport after landing at 13h45 and assisted on to a light aircraft flying on a circuit into the Okavango Delta. Upon landing at the Khwai airstrip, MmaTsebe Camp camp guides will collect you to spend 3 nights there on a fully inclusive basis. A late afternoon game viewing activity will be the precursor to dinner under the stars.

Botswana

Well known as one of the great safari destinations in Africa, Botswana offers some of the most beautiful, luxurious, and active safari experiences in Africa.

A Botswanan safari can never be long enough, and never experienced often enough.   Although one of the flattest countries you will ever visit, Botswana is blessed with an incredible variety of landscapes and eco-systems.

It is the very flatness of Botswana which has created some of the world's most special wilderness areas, and exploring the Kalahari, Okavango Delta and Makgadikgadi Salt Pans rewards you with memories for a lifetime.

Easily accessible from Johannesburg, and simply combined with Victoria Falls, Botswana needs to be on your safari list if you are planning a visit to Southern Africa.

As soon as you land in Maun or Kasane, you will know that you have arrived in a country which operates like nothing you have experienced before.

With the warthogs running through the streets of Kasane, and the hippos grunting in the Chobe River, your welcome to Botswana is one which tells you straight away you are in Africa's wilds.

Okavango Delta

The very word "Okavango" evokes a sense of adventure and exploration, and this is exactly what the Okavango Delta is about.   Often called the Okavango Swamps, this intricate maze of waterways and sandy islands is an explorer's dream, and the destination should be on the wishlist of anyone looking for a unique travel experience.

The geology of the Delta is fascinating, with its creation being attributed to tectonic plate action from thousands of years ago causing the Kavango River to flow from Angola into the Kalahari Desert as opposed to the Atlantic Ocean.

So while the vegetation is lush, and the wildlife plentiful, the waterways are actually cutting through Kalahari Desert sand, and the entire delta is an enormous oasis.

Termites are credited with the creation of the many islands around which the water slowly flows, as their mounds, common features of the landscape, are responsible for the formation of sand and foliage around them.
There is a continuous scurry of life in the Delta, from the smallest of creatures to the largest of elephants, and every twist and turn of the channels brings some new form of  life into view.   The Okavango Delta is truly one of nature's greatest creations.

MmaTsebe Camp

Affordable Botswana Tented Camp North of Khwai

MmaTsebe Tented Camp is an authentic tented bushcamp carefully positioned within an ancient riverine forest along the Mbudi River in Khwai on the Northern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana.

Day 5 : Chobe National Park

After a morning activity you will be driven to the airstrip to board a light aircraft flying on a circuit to Kasane Airport. You will be met on landing and transferred to Chobe Bush Lodge to spend 2 nights on a full board basis. Included in your stay are 2 shared game drives in the Chobe National Park and 2 game viewing boat cruises on the Chobe River. You will partake in one of these options this afternoon.

Chobe National Park

Accessed easily via a 1.5 hour flight from Johannesburg, or a 1 hour drive from Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park is the most visited park on a Boswana safari itinerary.

With an enormous elephant population, as well as magnificent birdlife and a huge array of herbivores and aquatic animals, it is often hard to believe that Chobe National Park is for real.

The game viewing starts from the moment you land at Kasane Airport, or drive across the border from Zambia or Zimbabwe, with warthogs foraging in the streets, buffalo being habitual visitors to the town, and hippos lazing around in the river.

Chobe Bush Lodge

With its intimate, modern and contemporary design, Chobe Bush Lodge is found in Kasane along the Chobe River, within eye distance of Chobe Safari Lodge. We are close to three international airports – Victoria Falls, Livingstone and Kasane – and daily road transfers or charter flights connecting all these airports with Chobe Bush Lodge make us easily accessible.

Day 6 : Chobe National Park

You will spend today on two of your game viewing excursions, with the option of organizing other excursions through the lodge. Village visits or extra boat cruises and drives are available.

Day 7 : Victoria Falls

After a morning activity you are collected at 10h00 and transferred across the Zimbabwe border to Victoria Falls town to spend 1 night on a bed and breakfast basis at Victoria Falls Hotel.   At 15h50 you will be collected for your sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, before returning to the hotel where you can enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant (dinner is on own account).

Zambezi Explorer Sunset Cruise

Flocks of birds skim the waterline as the sun sets. Enjoy our range of cocktails served with an accompaniment of delectable hors d’ oeuvres. Bring a camera and create your own golden memories. The cruise leaves from the Zambezi River Cruise Terminal and will take approximately 2 hours.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe - a treasure trove of breathtaking wilderness, vibrant wildlife, and awe-inspiring natural wonders.   From the iconic Victoria Falls, where the mighty Zambezi River plunges into dramatic gorges, to the serene waters of Lake Kariba and the untamed beauty of Hwange and Mana Pools, Zimbabwe is a safari destination like no other.

This remarkable country offers an unparalleled diversity of experiences. Explore the vast savannahs of Hwange National Park, home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa, or paddle along the tranquil channels of the Lower Zambezi, where hippos and crocodiles linger at every turn. Thrill-seekers will delight in world-class canoeing and white-water rafting, while nature enthusiasts will revel in walking safaris led by some of Africa's most experienced guides.

What truly sets Zimbabwe apart is its people. Warm, resilient, and welcoming, Zimbabweans add a unique vibrancy to every journey. Their deep connection to the land and dedication to conservation make every visit more meaningful.

Whether you're drawn by the roar of Victoria Falls, the call of the wild, or the chance to experience one of Africa's most storied landscapes, Zimbabwe promises an adventure filled with wonder and unforgettable moments.

Victoria Falls

"Mosi Oa Tunya", or "The Smoke That Thunders", Victoria Falls are as magnificent on the 10th visit as they are on the 1st, and their thundering roar makes everything else seem strangely quiet once you leave them behind.

As the mighty Zambezi flows over a chasm of 1 mile wide, and 110 metres high, to violently crash on the rocks below, the resultant spray is sent tens of metres up into the air, before it lands back down in a continuous rainfall.   The water then rushes through an opening of only 50 metres, as the Zambezi races further along, over churning rapids and through the deep Batoka Gorge.

While the Falls are the major drawcard, there is a thriving tourist industry developed around them, with adventure activities of all forms being available.

Tourism has been evident here ever since David Livingstone was the first European guided by the local tribes to this remarkable natural wonder.

The Victoria Falls Hotel

Feel the wonder!   One of the world’s Classic five-star hotels commands prime location overlooking Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, an acclaimed Natural Wonder of the World. A proud member of  Leading Hotels of the World, the Edwardian-style hotel, built in 1904, was splendidly redecorated in 2013 to combine its traditional majesty with modern sophistication. For more than 110 years The Victoria Falls Hotel has been a luxury icon in Africa.

Day 8 : Nairobi

This morning you will be picked up at 09h00 and taken on a guided walking tour of the spectacular waterfalls and you have some time for lunch before being collected at 15h00 and transferred across the border into Zambia, for your flight KQ783 departing at 18h05 from Livingstone to Nairobi.   On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport 22h20 at you will be met and transferred privately to the nearby Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport to spend 1 night on a bed and breakfast basis.

Victoria Falls Guided Walking Tour of Waterfalls (Zimbabwe)

It’s a truly awe-inspiring experience – the sight, the sound, the smell; the humbling feeling that here indeed is a masterpiece of nature. This tour is conducted in the morning and afternoon. You will be accompanied through the Rainforest by a qualified guide who will give a brief history of the Falls themselves as well as detailing the flora, fauna, bird & wildlife and other points of interest such as the “Big Tree” and the statue of David Livingstone. Guides are also happy to assist you with photographs whilst visiting this most spectacular of waterfalls. Raincoats are provided when needed.

Kenya

Kenya - The grand old dame of African safaris, Kenya has been at the forefront of the industry for decades, and with iconic reserves such as Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu and Tsavo, it has earned its place in safari royalty.
Kenya's wildlife is legendary, as is its hospitality, friendliness, and scenic beauty.  With the Great Rift Valley running through the country, Kenya is home to some stunning landscapes, with lakes, valleys and mountains adding to the beautiful plains of the Masai Mara.

To add to the spectacular wildlife, Kenya is one of the best countries to experience the local tribes and cultures, in particular the Masai and Samburu.

Kenyan roads are notoriously bad however, so the majority of safaris we recommend are fly-in options to the various parks.   The small group scheduled safaris all operate by road, so you would need to be prepared for what is called "the African massage".

The diversity of areas to visit in Kenya is astounding, with each game reserve offering something truly unique.   And to top it off, the country has a splendid coastline which invites some pure relaxation after spending time in the bush.

Nairobi

One of Africa’s major cities, Nairobi is the UN’s fourth “World Centre,” East Africa’s commercial, media and NGO hub, and a significant capital in its own right, with a population of approximately 3 to 4 million.

Little more than a century old, it has real claims to Western-style sophistication and displays enormous vitality and buzz.  On the surface the city accepts everyone with tolerance, and, in any downtown street, you can see a complete cross section of Kenyans, every variety of tourist, and migrants and refugees from many African countries.

If you plan to stay in Nairobi for any length of time, you’ll soon get the hang of balancing reasonable caution with a fairly relaxed attitude - thousands of visitors do it every year.  If you’re only here for a few days, you’re likely to find it a stimulating city.

Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport

Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport is an upscale full-service hotel conveniently located a 3-minute drive from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport terminals.

Day 9 : Amboseli National Park

This morning you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Wilson Airport in time for your flight at 07h15 in a light aircraft to Amboseli. You will be met by a guide upon landing at 08h00 and transferred to Elerai Camp in the Elerai Conservation Area where you spend 3 nights on a fully inclusive basis. Day and night game drives, a guided walk and a visit to a Masaai village are activities available at the camp and after settling in your first activity in Amboseli will commence.

Amboseli National Park

The combination of masses of animals, diverse eco-systems, and the splendid views of Mount Kilimanjaro make Amboseli National Park high up on the must-see list of any Kenyan safari.

With desert landscapes to lush green swampland, the scenery changes entirely during game drives, with new photo opportunities presenting themselves all the time.

Amboseli is famous for its huge elephant herds, and is home to a remarkable concentration of species and birdlife, all the while being watched over by the highest peak in Africa.

Elerai Camp

Elerai Camp is located in a quiet, unspoilt, unique setting on a 5000 acre private conservation area 12 kms south east of Amboseli National Park at the foot of Africa’s Largest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. The camp looks down onto the Amboseli National Park in one direction and up to Mt Kilimanjaro in the other direction, giving clients what is arguably the best location of any camp in Amboseli.

Both the Deluxe Tents and the cottage rooms have en-suite bathrooms whereby the cottage rooms also have luxurious baths in addition to the shower. The facilities are supplied with hot running water provided by eco friendly solar units.

The Elerai Camp project is a community project that has been a long time in the making. The project has been a concerted effort between Elerai Camp, The African Wildlife Foundation and The Elerai community. The concept is to provide a sustainable income from tourism for the Masai community in the area and to try and ensure that it is in the communities interest to protect the wildlife for generations to come. Amboseli has been a location where human-wildlife conflict has been an issue for many years, and it is projects like these that can over time ensure that communities start to benefit from wildlife and to ensure they invest in protecting and securing their future for their own benefit.

One of the biggest advantages of Elerai Camp is that being located on its own private conservation area clients have the chance to view wildlife in private surroundings. In addition we also offer clients the chance to enjoy spectacular bush sundowners, night game drives and game walks on the conservancy, activities that are restricted or not available to the lodges located within the park.

Amboseli National Park offers the amazing Amboseli swamps with the large herds of elephants and buffalos and the unique aquatic bird species. In contrast, Elerai conservation area offers grass plains and acacia woodland forest which are home to the large elephant bulls, many giraffe and eland and a host of amazing bird life.

Day 12 : Karatu (outskirts of Ngorongoro Crater)

You will be transferred to the Namanga border post where you will be met on the Tanzania side by your private guide. You will have an approximately 4 hour journey in a 4x4 vehicle to Ngorongoro Farm House on the outer slopes of the crater where you will spend 2 nights on a full board basis.

Tanzania

A land full of icons, with the names Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro and Zanzibar immediately evoking images of exotic locations and abundant wildlife.  A Tanzanian safari is an experience for all of the senses, and caters for every kind of traveller.

Tanzania is a country which was seemingly designed with the word "safari" in mind.  There are enough national parks and different safari activities to keep travellers coming back year on year, with the added benefit of easily combining beautiful tropical beaches with the wildlife rich plains.

A Tanzanian safari is a journey in the true sense of the word, with each itinerary feeling like an exploration out into the wilderness.   Moving from park to park, either by road or air, the countryside offers something new at each stop.

The plains of the Serengeti have become synonomous with an African safari, and by visiting the right areas and camps, you will be able to see the legendary wildebeest migration as it moves across the grasslands in constant search of fresh grazing and water.

To the south of the country are the remote reserves of Selous and Ruaha, while in the west you can trek into the mountains to witness chimpanzees along the shores of the mystical Lake Tanganyika.

Karatu (outskirts of Ngorongoro Crater)

Karatu provides a number of accommodation options with easy access to the Ngorongoro Crater.

There is no way that an extinct volcanic crater, housing thousands of animals, with lodges built right on the crater rim cannot be enticing!   The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most fascinating and unique game viewing destinations in Africa.

There is a year round concentration of general wildlife, which offers regular sightings of lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, serval, zebra, wildebeest, and most excitingly, black rhino.

The Ngorongoro Crater provides you with a wonderful couple of days on your safari itinerary.

Ngorongoro Farm House

Live the legendary atmosphere of past times on a colonial style coffee plantation farm house

Hand plaited thatched roof tops, ample verandas and colonial interiors at Ngorongoro Farm House, a small and exclusive hotel built on a 500 acre coffee plantation, all of which has been designed to take you to the comfort and style of past times. Take a walk around the farm to contemplate the daily activities, relax in the fragrant gardens or enjoy the spectacular sunsets with the Oldeani volcano as a backcloth.

A wonderful stop-off during a safari on the north circuit of Tanzania and a privileged place from where one can visit the crater or enjoy activities such a walking safaris to the volcano or excursions to Lake Eyasi on the Rift Valley still inhabited by the Hadzabe tribe.

Day 13 : Karatu (outskirts of Ngorongoro Crater)

A highlight awaits you this morning as you descend with a picnic lunch through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater for a 6-hour tour. The crater floor is comprised of several distinct habitats hosting an abundance of diverse wildlife. Lunch is served near a small lake filled with hippos. You then continue game viewing before returning to the crater’s rim and then on to your lodge.

Day 14 : Serengeti National Park

You will be driven to Manyara Airstrip and assisted on to a light aircraft flying at 10h20 to Kogatende in the northern Serengeti. You will be met on landing at 11h05 and driven by camp guides to Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp to spend 3 nights on a full board basis. After settling in to camp you will have a game drive this afternoon.

Serengeti National Park

The word "Siringit" means "endless plains," and this is understandably from where the Serengeti National Park takes its name.  The iconic, endless, golden plains of Africa are nowhere more evident than within this national park, as they stretch off into eternity, dotted throughout with thousands of animals.

Located in the north-west corner of Tanzania, alongside Lake Victoria, the Serengeti has earned its place as one of the world's most famous wildlife areas.  While best known for the enormous herds of the wildebeest migration, there is far more to the Serengeti than this, and the national park can be enjoyed even when you are not in the vicinity of this spectacle.

The national park itself is roughly 14 500 square kilometres, but it forms part of the greater Serengeti eco-system, which comprises the neighbouring Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the bordering Masai Mara, in Kenya, with the country boundary between Kenya and Tanzania seperating the two.

The Serengeti can be accessed on a road safari, usually in combination with the Ngorongoro Crater, or there are regular daily flights into the park from Arusha.

Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp (Kogatende)

Nasikia Mobile Camp has 10 tents that remain mobile throughout the year, depending on seasonal reservation requirements and location of the wildebeest migration. We endeavour to retain the uniqueness and intimacy of the camp, whilst being directed by the location, wildlife and other factors of responsible tourism. 01 June – 31 October – located at Kogatende, in the far northern areas of the Serengeti. This puts us in a great position to game drive to the Kogatende and Mara Rivers in the hope of gaining a view as the herds run the gauntlet of crocodiles as they cross the rivers. This is typically ideal, especially between mid-July and mid-September each year.

Day 15 - 16 : Serengeti National Park

Cape Town

Scenically spectacular, with an array of activities on offer, Cape Town is great for an extended holiday on its own, or for an add on to a safari in South Africa, or any other countries.
