Madikwe Game Reserve

Madikwe Game Reserve

Right along the border with Botswana, Madikwe Game Reserve is a fantastic example of a succesful conservation effort between government, private sectors and local communities.

As a relatively young reserve, having being proclaimed in 1991, the area has been involved in a huge amount of conservation efforts, land reclamation, and relocation of wildlife.

A host to all of the Big 5 as well as a huge variety of others species, and also in a malaria-free area, the game reserve is fantastic for a wildlife experience with the family.

Day and Night Game Drives

Madikwe Game Reserve is well known for its exciting sightings, and especially for the ability to experience night drives out in the Africn bush.

There are very few chills up the spine which match the ones which occur when your vehicle is surrounded by a pride of roaring lions as they head out into the dark to hunt.

Guided Bushwalks

Madikwe is a reserve which allows guided walking safaris, led by armed and experienced guides.   It is a completely different feeling to being safely inside a vehicle, and is a great way of seeing the small creatures and signs of the bush.

Get out and stretch your legs while looking for spoor, and spend time noticing the multitude of small and interesting insects and reptiles which are missed when sitting in the safari vehicle.

Luxury and Eco Lodges

The lodges in Madikwe have been designed with both luxury and the environment in mind.

Mostly being small and exclusive, they provide you with personal service, great food, and well qualified guides.

There are a number of eco-lodges, focused on minimising their effect on the surrounding eco-system, focusing on sustainability.
