Tsavo National Park

Tsavo National Park

One of the oldest and largest national parks in Kenya, Tsavo's enormous 22 000 square kilometres has been divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks, each offering something slightly different, but equally rewarding.

The location of the park makes it easily combined with a beach holiday at Mombasa, while it also takes the park off the usual circuit of a Kenyan safari itinerary.

The larger of the 2 parks, Tsavo East is a popular combination with Mombasa, and allows for an easy bush and beach holiday.  The park is home to some of Kenya's largest elephant herds, which have fascinated visitors due to their red colouring, caused by the volcanic dust of the area.

A major feature of the park is the Yatta Plateau, which is the longest lava flow in the world, and attracts an immense number of species of birds.

Less visited than Tsavo East, Tsavo West is home to some incredible landscapes as well as large numbers of wildlife.  With relatively recent volcanic activity happening in the area, lava flows and fascinating physical features dominate the park, and create unique backgrounds to your many animal pictures.
